What Do You Want to Be

It was morning, just a perfect time to make a hotcake for my kids. Chantry accompanied me to our kitchen as I lined up the ingredients and held her up to the countertop so that I could see her face clearly.

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” I began. Instead of waiting for her response, I led her to answer this: “Maybe you can be a chef then we will open your restaurant and…”

Before I could even finish, she blurted mischievously, “No, I just wanna be a kid!”

P.S. Although I told her what she can become someday, I strongly do not believe in pushing our kids or dictating to them what their professions should be 15-25 years from now. Any profession is fine for as long as it is decent and not illegal. I am indeed glad to know that Chantry is secured about simply being just a kid for now and not worried about her future.
